Meta also just announced a big upgrade to its Horizon Desktop Editor. The new AI model, AssetGen 2.0, will accelerate the development of the virtual worlds on Roblox-like Horizon Worlds metaverse platform. The new features hold the potential for better quality outputs using both text and image based prompts.
The new Meta Horizon Desktop Editor allows creators to construct immersive virtual environments directly on their desktop computers. It’s still widely limited, only available in the 23 countries that back Meta’s Horizon Worlds metaverse platform. As it stands, the editor is only available for Windows PCs, which would exclude many potential users on macOS and Linux systems from using the tool.
In April, Meta broadened the Horizon Desktop Editor's functionality by integrating AI tools that allow users to generate 3D models from text prompts. And yet, these new AI tools are only available to users in the USA, Canada and the UK to date.
The new Meta Horizon Desktop Editor release, which rolled out first here in the U.S. It included generative AI tools that are generating sound effects, ambient noises, even TypeScript code. New AI tools to connect with employers debuted in the UK and Canada this past April. In these tools we created procedural mesh, texture, and skybox generation.
AssetGen 2.0, the new AI model, was trained on Empires’ large library of 3D assets. As a result, this fine-tuning allows it to generate more advanced and coherent outputs from text and image-based prompts.
Building on its predecessor, AssetGen 1.0, our latest innovation represents a significant leap forward in 3D generative AI research, leveraging a single-stage 3D diffusion model to deliver 3D meshes with dramatically improved detail and fidelity, while our complementary TextureGen model ensures that these assets are not only visually stunning but also production-ready with high-quality textures. - Meta
Meta’s Horizon Desktop Editor is purpose-built to make virtual environments for use in Horizon Worlds.
The Desktop Editor maps to traditional 2D and 3D app development workflows, letting you build new worlds on your PC. It supports new features like custom model import for building high-fidelity worlds, TypeScript support for complex game logic, and mobile optimization tools that let creators build more fun, interactive experiences. - Meta
