hConnect acts as Hopae’s trusted intermediary, allowing organizations a single access point to thousands of national eIDs. The shared platform tries to avoid the additional complexity that would stem from a direct eID integration, which means establishing a connection to every single national system.
Direct eID integration would be an uphill battle, and not just from an administrative perspective. hConnect solves these challenges by serving as a gateway, providing a single point of access to national eIDs. As opposed to classical gateways, the role of intermediaries such as hConnect is indeed specified under eIDAS 2.0 ARF.
