What's Going on QC, a new website founded by Ryan Segura and DeFrieze, is integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) into its infrastructure to deliver local news. These technologies remain nascent. The founders are sure they offer special possibilities for content creation, verification, and long-term information storage. The collaborative uses the AI tools to enhance sentence structure, create visual media assets, and fact-check statements. They go further, using NFTs to mint immutable records of news items. Despite the innovative approach, Segura admits uncertainty about the market for these news-related NFTs, stating there is no immediate plan to use them for fundraising.

His Holaplex co-founder Ryan Segura did take Protos through the NFT creation process. He showed how each NFT entry is created, adding an entry for "Putnam GIANT Screen" while discussing attributes that can be added and updated. All NFTs associated with What's Going on QC have been transferred to a single address: 0x18582f2CA048ac5f22E5a64F92E8a7d7b1F806a4.

The use of NFTs in What’s Going on QC creates a whole other layer of critical questions, such as, “Why NFTs?” Segura believes that NFT technology can and should transform a lot of industries. Currently, he is focused on applying NFTs on web development.

The actual metadata for What’s Going on QC’s NFTs is not stored on-chain, but rather in S3. As Segura argues, services like Arweave are extremely expensive compared to just storing the metadata in S3.

Beyond that, though, Segura said he could not understand why an individual would want to purchase one of these NFTs. He reiterated that there was no short-term plan to utilize NFTs for raising capital.

Artificial Intelligence is equally important behind the scenes throughout a large section of the What’s Going on QC site. AI is used to improve grammar and spelling. It generates cover images. In addition, AI is helping to fact-check statements made on the platform, including the capability of doing extensive web deep dive searches.
